Romantic pleats + culottes

Ever since the show The City, I’ve been a fan of Olivia Palermo’s style. Her ability to mix high and low end pieces in addition to wearing the same piece multiple times has always brought me inspiration. Needless to say, anytime I can recreate a look she wears with pieces already in my closet, I’m on it.

When I saw Palermo in a pair of culottes and a pleated top I knew I had an outfit I could put together. The perks of not having a massive closet is you tend to know the pieces you have by heart, so when I see an outfit I like and can recreate, I can quickly think of the pieces to put together. When you want to recreate a look, you don’t necessarily need the exact pieces. In my case, I had similar items but with a different color palette, then of course added my own personal style with a belt with zipper detail.

Monochromatic Minimalism

Monochromatic pieces can create a very timeless and chic look; however, sometimes can be intimidating to style  – especially with the color black. Typically with monochromatic looks, you want to play around with fabric, texture and proportion so that an outfit with only one color can still be interesting. Another option is to keep fabrics simple and add a subtle contrast of color. You can add contrast not only with shoes, jewelry and hand bags, but with nail and lip color as well.

For my monochromatic look, I paired a boatneck top with slacks, leopard print shoes and my favorite minimalist jewelry from a local boutique BOHINDI.

How do you style monochrome?

Chic athleisure

The track pant trend is a big one for fall, as well as the cut out shoulder look. I combined the two for an athletic and chic style. Pumps give a more polished feel, but you can easily style this with sneakers or sandals. The transition from summer to fall is my favorite time of the year and this look is the epitome of what I love to wear because of the marvelous weather. How do you transition into fall?

Styling separates, Part 2

Last week I posted how I styled the bottoms of my matching set [here] – and now I bring you how I styled the top. I paired the top with my favorite wide leg pants and fun gold accessories. The black chevron earrings I got years ago from a thrift store. The necklace is actually a gold chain belt I took from my moms closet so so long ago [obviously I knew it was a keeper of an accessory].

Subtle print mixing

I love a good floral and stripe combo as much as the next person – but if you’re apprehensive to mix prints, there are subtle ways you can do so if you do not want to take the style too far.

I adore this floral pencil skirt from the Who What Wear collection for Target. Even though this specific print is sold out, they have other printed pencil skirts that would be a great addition to your closet. I styled the skirt with a Forever 21 bell sleeve top with minimal stripes to give the look that mixed print feel.

Styling separates, Part 1

Matching sets are a great purchase since they’re so versatile. I purchased a matching set [you can find that post here] over the summer, and I’ve already styled the pieces separately in multiple ways.

Below is a variation of how I have styled the shorts with a trending off the shoulder top and unique accessories.

Columbus book project shoot

I had the opportunity to be featured in an upcoming coffee table and e-book that showcases local artists, shops, neighborhoods and eateries throughout Columbus. The Columbus Book Project will be launching in spring 2017 and I cannot wait to see the finished product. They asked many of the local bloggers [fashion and food] to come together and be featured as some of the city’s top contributors. Needless to say, the shoot was amazing because all of the bloggers are a joy to be around.

For the shoot, I chose to wear:

-My white wide legged pants, because they’re my favorite

-A crop top that I scored at a Fashion for Philanthropy event awhile back

-Flatform sandals, because there was no way I was climbing on a scaffold in heels [more on that later 😉 ]

-A snake print belt, because it was the first one I grabbed that fit through the pant belt loops [yes, sometimes function can totally drive an unexpected form].

For the shoot, we had individual shots and a group shot on a large scaffolding structure. I volunteered to be on the top floor [hence the sandals]. Overall, it was a ton of fun and I cannot wait for spring of next year to see the shots!

It’s a cool, cool summer

Sometimes trying to be stylish in this heat is a challenge. I’ve probably worn this H&M tank top 20 times since I’ve purchased it. The print is unique and style flowy and flattering. I kept it simple with small stud earrings, 90s inspired flatform sandals and my go-to sunglasses.

Matching set, romper feels

I love a romper as much as the next person; however, I do like the pieces I purchase to be versatile. Instead of adding a romper to my wardrobe this summer I found this perfect matching short+top set from H&M and had to have it. With this look, I’m able to wear both pieces together to fake a romper, or I can wear them as separates. This print is perfect for summer and will work well into fall with the combination of dark and bright hues. Stay tuned for future posts to see how I style the pieces separately.
